Q. I am in the market to get my teeth straightened, now that I have a bit more money available. I have been considering treatment along the lines of invisalign or possibly even lumineers. Is one treatment more advantageous than the other?
A. Hello,
Without examination it is difficult to tell whether orthodontic treatment or veneers are the best options for you. At our practice we offer an initial free smile consultation to discuss the treatments with the patients.

Q. I am in the market to get my teeth straightened, but am not wanting to go down the train track route with fixed braces. I would just like to know how long invisalign has been around, and how successful it truly is when straightening teeth?
A. Invisalign has been around for many years and has been succesful in straightening teeth.

Q. What would happen if I was to get a cavity during invisalign treatment? Would it affect the movement of the teeth caused by the aligners, or would it not have any affect?
A. If you get a cavity during the Invisalign treatment it would be best to clean out the decay and restore the cavity with a filling as soon as possible. It is practically impossible to duplicate the exact surface of the tooth, this means there is a chance (depending on the size of the cavity) that the filling may interfere with the Invisalign aligner sitting in place.
If this does happen, you made have to pay a fee to remake the aligners.

Q. Hi, I have seen 2 dentists regarding invisalign and I am interested in the treatment but have concerns about the cost. The 2 dentists I saw explained the cost factors differently and I wondered if you would be able to clear this up for me. The first I saw referred to express treatment (which is not suitable for me), intermediate and full. I thought he had said the intermediate was cheaper and would be appropriate if I needed less retainers to achieve the results desired rather than the full treatment (ie between an express and full).
However, the second dentist said this wasn’t correct and that an intermediate treatment just deals with the movement of the front six teeth and therefore, doesn’t achieve the same results as the full, which deals with all the teeth. Would you please let me know what internedite treatment means?
A. In my 5.8 years of experience most patients will need full orthodontic treatment. This way we can achieve optimum orthodontic movements and a great result.
Intermediate or express is a load of nonsense for anyone with crowding as this will involve trimming between your front teeth.
If you have crowding and need to create space then you are forcing the dentist to trim the enamel between the teeth.
The only patients suitable for intermediate or express are those where the front 6 teeth stick out and are spaced.
Go full and pay full price.

Q. Will invisalign affect my speech?
A. ghhs kjhsh hiios ijs sikkul;
That was a joke by the way.
No, it will not affect your speech. You may need to pronounce some words a bit better, but in general no one has speech problems.

Q. I want to get my teeth straightened and am mainly contemplating invisalign. However, fixed braces are a distinct possibility. Would you be able to tell me which is the faster treatment on average?
A. Invisalign can be rapid, depending on the amount of crowding you have. Otherwise, you can consider 6 month braces/ 6 month smiles. Treatment times with this type of treatment last on average 6 months.

Q. I have two protruding front teeth, which has always caused me to shy away from smiling due to embarassment. I would like to know whether invisalign is capable of treating such a problem?
A. Hello,
Invisalign might be able to correct your teeth. I suggest an appointment with an Invisalign provider.

Q. I read that you are supposed to change your aligners every two weeks, but my dentist has advised me to do so every three weeks. Does this happen often for patients?
A. Hello,
Normally it is enough to wear your trays 22hours per day for two weeks. After the second week you should feel the aligners become loose or very easy to put them in or take them out. If your teeth need more time to move you should wear the aligners longer.

Q. Is it possible to get your teeth whitened during invisalign treatment, or am I best waiting? I would really like to get it done now.
A. Hello,
It is possible, as long as you do not have any attachments on your teeth. If you have, wait until you finish with the trays and use your last aligner or retainer for bleaching.

Q. Hello Dr Vajda. I really want to get my teeth straightened, and the invisible route with invisalign is the way I would like to go. However, I need to know how much invisalign will affect my speech, as I am on the phone all day and need to be able to communicate freely.
A.
Hello,
Invisalign is a great way to correct the teeth, as after a couple of hours you get used to the appliance. I have just recently finished a case where the patient was an English teacher. Even the students did not notice the trays, since Invisalign did not affect his speech.
