Q. Is invisalign only available at private clinics or is there any chance of getting it through the NHS?
A. I highly doubt that you could get Invisalign treatment on the NHS.

Q. Since beginning invisalign I have been getting headaches quite regularly, for about two weeks now. This is something I had when I was younger wbut which went away and I am not happy that it has returned. Is it because of the strain or even stress of wearing the things? Any of your patients had the same problem?
A. I’ve not had any patients complaining of getting a headache from wearing the Invisalign aligners.
It maybe wise to see your Invisalign dentist to report this.
A possible theory is that being a new object in the mouth (the aligners), your brain (whilst you are sleeping) is trying to fit the upper and lower teeth together as much as possible and the aligners are in the way. So the brain is getting your muscles to move your jaw around to get the upper and lower teeth to sit as they once were (before the aligners). By doing this so much whilst your as sleep the muscles get tired, full of lactic acid (as if you have done exercise) and are very tense; similiar to cramp. This could be manifested as a headache.
A thorough examination done by the dentist could identify the muscles responsible and try to identify a solution for you.

Q. Is the IPR procedure dentists perform to make space for teeth to move safe to do. It just seems to me like it is breaking away the outer protection of the teeth. Has this ever caused things like sensitive teeth for your patients?
A. The IPR procedure is a well researched and safe method of create small spaces to allow teeth to move past each without collision.
You are losing enamel but this is only a small amount and should not lead to sensitivity. Only a heavy amount of IPR would do this and Invisalign would not ask the dentist to do this.
The maximum amount of IPR they request is 0.5mm in between two teeth. If done evenly by the dentist, this would be 0.25mm (a quarter of a millimeter) from each surface of each tooth.

Q. How many retainers will I be given at the end of the invisalign? Will it just be one? I have heard that you need to wear them for quite some time so I can’t imagine the one retainer will last all that long?
A. Invisalign recently came up with the vivera retainers which comprises of a set of 3 upper and 3 lower retainers

Q. I am about to start invisalign and just had a question about the kind of diet you should have during this. Is there any kind of food or drink that you try to stay away from and any good substitutes for such things? I know things like chewing gum would obvisouly be a bad idea but what else?
A. You do not eat or drink anything apart from cold water when your aligners are in. When you take them out you can pretty much eat what you want but you must brush and floss your teeth before the aligners go back in.

Q. Since beginning invislaign my cheeks have become really puffy and sensitive. I have been goping with it for about two weeks now and I expected it to go away, but alas. I am going to get onto my dentist soon as but could you tell me what the problem may be?
A. Hello,
You should discuss this with you dentist because without seeing it I cannot really tell what the problem might be.
