Q. Are Invislaign prone to the problem of teeth moving back to their original position just like any other ortho system? What can be done to stop this. I don’t want to waste my money on Invisalign and then find that my teeth are just the same as they always were.
A. I’m afraid that after any type of orthodontic treatment, the teeth can move and not be exactly where you left them a few years on. The best way to prevent untowards tooth movement (drifting) is to use retainers to keep the teeth still. There are two types of retainers; removable and fixed. Your dentist can talk to you about the advantages and disadvantages of both types.
If you wear the Invisalign retainers after treatment indefinately, you teeth should remain stationary indefinately.

Q. Do you know what the best method is to clean the aligners please Dr Kumar. My dentist said to brush them with toothpaste but I find that theyr retain the same stink as before. Some people have told me to soak them in mouthwash but I am unsure about what this will do to the aligners. Can you offer any adivce please Dr Kumar?
A. it is best to use an electric tooth brush and remove the plaque off. even a hard brush is fine. after which soak them in listerine
brushing regularly is best every night

Q. What would the monthly payments for invislaign normally be?
A. It obviously depends on the cost of the treatment, duration of the finance agreement and if the finance is interest free.
If you budget between £100 to £150 a month, this should be adequate.

Q. I have been talking to my dentist about possibly having braces as my teeth are crooked and I am still at an age where I think I am young enough to do it. My dentist has mentioned invisalign which is why I am here but has also said about clearstep which I have not heard all that much about. Could you tell me a bit about the differences for these treatments and which one is quicker and cheaper? Thank you, sarah.
A. Hi Sarah,
Thanks for your email.
Invisalign pioneered the clear aligner system over 10 years ago, Clearstep are the UK equivalent that have been around for almost as long. Each has their advantages and disadvantages.
With Invisalign you can see what the final result can look like after you have had the impressions taken on a computer generated animation. With Clearstep there is an orthodontist who looks at the impressions, photographs and xrays taken to treatment plan the movement of your teeth. Duration wise I would say Invisalign is quicker as changing of aligners is more fluid (they are all made together at the start of the treatment), with Clearstep, a new impression must be taken after every 8 aligners. It can take clearstep about a month before the next set of aligners are made.
The costs will vary depending on how much treatment you have and the pricing structure of the practice. It would be best to see a dentist that does both and get an estimate.
Kind regards
Dr Simon Li

Q. Do you know if there is any help out there for orthondtic treatment when it comes to people like me with little money? I really want to get my teeth straightened but this seems like a distant thing with my current level of money?
A.
Finance is an option to help spread the cost of dental treatment. Most dental practices offer finance to the patients making dental treatment affordable to suit all budgets. In our practice we offer finance allowing payments to be spread between 1 and 5 years
