Can I chew gum when wearing the aligners?

March 3rd, 2010

Q. I have only just started my treatment…yesterday…and gave up smoking only two months ago. Because of this I hvae been chewing a lot of gum as a replacement for the smoking but I am worried that chewing gum with the aligners in would damage them. Do you knwo if this is the casE Any chewing gum that is not so bad or could mints be a possible alternative?
A. It would be best NOT to chew gum whilst the aligners are in your mouth as this may well damage the aligners.

If you do have mints as a subsitutue then ensure that they are sugar-free mints!
