How long do I need to wear retainer after invisalign?

Q.
I have heard from my brother thathsi dentist advised he wear retainers for the rest of his life once invisalign treatment is complete, but is this really necessary? When I had fixed braces when I was younger I only had to wear my retainers for a certain amount of time and my teeth only moved back slightly but not noticeable. So, is it really essential?

Will I need to get wisdom teeth removed before invisalign?

How long do attachments need to be worn?

Am I okay for invisalign if I already had fixed braces?

When I was younger I had fixed braces but the treatment did not work out all that well for me and I brought it to an end. Now a few years down the line I am thinking about going with invisalign but have heard that you can not have this treatment if you have had fixed braces in the past.
