Q. If I go to a dentist for a consultation, but I am not sure what braces I want and the dentist offers several kinds, invisalign and inman for example, then what will happen? Will the dentist be willing to tell me about both and whatever else a consultation involves? Or is the consultation just for tha specific treatments like invisalign? Thanking yous,
A. It really depends what dentist you go and see. Some dentist can only provide one type of teeth straightening methods others, like myself can offer a variety of options. During a consultation, I offer my patients all the options available and suitable for their case and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each treatment option so that the patient can decide what option to go for.

Q. Hi! I was just wondering how I would go about getting into orthodontics? I\’m currently only in year 10 at high school so don\’t have any qualifications, just wondering what I should pick for A-levels?

thank you Dr!,
A. I would suggest you get in touch with a dental school to find out what grades and subjects you need to do Dentistry.

Q. Hi Dr Raj Can I ask what the difference is between a cosmetic dentist and an orthodontist? I ask as my teeth have shifted since last having treatment about 12 years ago, how much do you charge for invisalign? I believe it is minor crowding Thanks
,
A. A cosmetic dentist can offer simple orthodontics or a cosmetic solution. An orthodontist can only offer orthodontics. In terms of cost, if you think you have mild crowding then the best bet is to get a dentist to examine and confirm it so. Our charges range from 3000-4000 as we do not treat simple crowding by stripping the enamel between the front teeth. Dr R Kumar BDSLDSRCS

Q. my orthodontist asked if i\’d consider a gingivectomy, what is this exactly? And what would be involved procedure wise? thank you,
A. A gingivectomy is a surgical procedure which involves removing a small cuff of gum around a tooth to improve the aesthetics etc. It is done under local anaesthetic and therefore you do not feel anything whilst having this treatment.

Q. have you treated adults with invisalign treatment? The thing is they are in a bad condition, really wonky and some of my teeth are a bit loose, also my mouth is full of crowns and fillings etc and the enamel on my teeth has worn pretty bad.,
A. Almost all of my patients that I see with Invisalign are adults! If your teeth are loose then it would be important to establish if you have gum disease and if so this must be treated first before having any form of orthodontic treatment. With regards to the crowns and fillings, Invisalign works around these.

Q. does the price of invisalign depend on how many trays you need? OR is it one set price for everyone? i\’m just wondering because my teeth are in a bad way, they\’re very crooked but i can\’t afford to pay a fortune, thanks.,
A. Prices for invisalign can vary, it depends on how long treatment is going to be and how complex the treatment is. Most practices now offer finance options to help you spread the cost of treatment over 12months to 5 years.

Q. Hello i\’ve previously had gum disease so they\’ve receded quite badly. I am considering orthodontic treatment to fix my crooked top teeth. Would i be eligible after having the gum disease in your opinion? have you treated anyone with invisalign after they\’ve just recovered from gum disease? thank you,
A. I have carried out orthodontic treatment on patients who had gum disease in the past but now have stable and healthy gums. You can have orthodontic treatment to straighten your teeth if your gum disease has arrested and the gums are healthy and stable and you regularly see the dentist and hygienist and your oral hygiene is to a high standard Hope this helps

A. Hi, The duration of the treatment depends on how bent your two front teeth are. I would see an experienced Invisalign dentist for a more detail opinion.

Q. Hello Dr, I am the ripe old age of 51 and have for much of my life had to put up with buck teeth so can you tell me if I am now too late to have them corrected? After reading up on this fascinating treatment I am hoping it can be used to correct me teeth?,
A. It is never to late to consider orthodontic treatment. I would recommend a consultation to ascertain your teeth, gums and bone around the teeth are healthy. Your bite will have to be assessed and after all that information is gathered your dentist will be able to tell you what your treatment options are
