Are vivera retainers a good choice?

October 16th, 2009
Q.
I finished my invisalign treatment just over a year ago now. As recommended I have worn the retainers at night and even for a couple of hours during the day. However, I started to notice that my retainer was getting pretty tight and there was even a gap appearring between my front teeth. I managed to get hold of another retainer, which was pretty tight, but this has lessened. I can only guess that my other retainers became stretched or something. Will this happen again?

Can invisalign close the gap between my front teeth?

September 29th, 2009
Q.
I had veneers when I was younger to try and close the gap at the front of my teeth, but this was unsuccessful and the gap soon returned. I hate this gap and want to get it sorted. Is invisalign able to close the gap between my front teeth?

Is invisalign able to close gaps between teeth?

September 24th, 2009
Q.
Hello Dr, I have been told that Invisalign only works on overcrowded teeth and not on closing gaps up which is my problem. However on the Invisalign website in America they show cases like mine being treated. I’m desperate to improve my smile which is not terrible but being 28 I don’t want metal braces. There is gaps between most of my upper teeth but the bottom row is fine. The top row are slightly protruded too and the bottom row are close up behind them so both sets may have to move back slightly. I have plenty of room and always thought that this wouldn’t be a problem. I have the money and could start treatment tommorrow given the green light. I hope you can help me Thankyou for reading.

September 15th, 2009
Q.
After having a consultation I was informed that I would need to have one of my front lower teeth  extracted before I could get my aligners, to help with overcrowding. I can’t say I particularly like the sound of this, and am wondering if a temporary tooth or something could be used to cover the gap?

Can the gap caused by tooth extraction be covered before getting aligners?

Are mercury fillings dangerous?

September 10th, 2009
Q.
I recently read in an article about a woman who had been suffering from an illness (something about fatigue syndrome), which only went away when she had her mercury dental filling removed. Are they dangerous or are they okay?

Does a child sucking their thumb affect teeth development?

September 10th, 2009
Q.
My child is now 6 and still sucks her thumb on occassion. I make her stop when I notice but still catch her at it sometimes. Is there a chance this is causing any damage to the way her teeth are developing?

How long will a crown typically last?

September 10th, 2009
Q.
I got a crown for one of my teeth when it got broken off. I had to get the whole tooth removed through surgery. This was around two years ago. When I go to the dentist she says the crown is holding up well, which makes me worry about how long it will actually last. She did mention the option of an implant when we first discussed what I could do, but I chose a crown becuase it was cheaper. How long do crowns typically last?

Do lower dentures fit less well than upper dentures?

September 9th, 2009
Q.
I currently wear complete upper dentures and they fit fine, after an initial time of uncomfortableness. However, my bottom teeth are not in particularly good condition either, but I would rather not get dentures for them as I have heard they fit less well than upper dentures. Are there any other options available, or am I hearing wrong in the first place?

My tooth crumbled when my braces were removed. Why?

September 7th, 2009
Q.
When I had my fixed braces taken off, for some reason one of my teeth at the side of my mouth crumbled away, with the root and remaining bone still intact. Why did this happen and what should I do?
