Q. Would you be able to tell me if I can get my teeth whtiening during my treatment? I am only half way through and I don’t want to ruin my treatment so your opinion would be appreciated.
A.
You can have whitening done as long as no attachments are present .
However if there are attachments , its best done at completion of your invisalign treatment

Q. Hello Dr Vajda, I ams eriously considering getting Invisalign but could you tell me if your practice offers teeth whitening as part of the invisalign process. Thanks for your time.
A. Hello,
Usually , the last tray could be used as a Beaching Tray so a complimentary whittening is offered with Invisalign.

Q. I know some clinics offer teeth whitening through the use of the aligners near to the end of treatment but am I able to do it myself with something I buy from the store? Would this be safe, and more importantly, have any of your patients done this?
A. I do not recommend you buy whitening products from a store. I strongly advise you to see a dentist to have teeth whitening in order to avoid any problems and to ensure you get the best results

Q. Teeth whiteninig - can I get this done half way through my invislaign treatment? My teeth were discoloured to begin with but are getting even worse because of the invisalign I think, even though I do clean my teeth to a good ratio. I was going to get my teeth whitened at the end of treatment anyway so maybe it is not such a bad thing. I have attachments if that will make any difference to how the teeth whitening will work?
A. It is possible to do whitening while having invisalign treatment, but I tend to do it at the end of treatment for better results. The whitening carried out at the end of treatment involves using special, custom-made whitening trays which allow to achieve better result. Each dentist is different and each dentist uses a different make of whitening gels, so I would ask your Invisalign dentist.

Q. Can I use a whitening gel with the aligners to help whiten my teeth or would this only cause them damage? The thing is I dont just to have my teeth straighter but I also want pearly whites!
A. I tend to offer whitening at the end of the treatment but if you wish to whiten them during invisalign treatment, I would recommend you speak to your dentist

Q. Is zoom teeth whitening a bad idea to get done during invisalign treatment? Am I best to wait until the treatment is done before getting this done? What complications may I face?
A. You can have zoom whitening if you wish and there are no major complication. You have to be aware that if you do have whitening done during invisalign treatment your attachments or any white fillings you may have will not whiten and will not be removed/replaced until your treatment is completed. I tend to offer whitening to my patients once Invisalign treatment is complete

Q. Will wearing the aligners likely make my teeth get a little discoloured during treatment? Does this happen with any patients you know of? Its just keeping in teeth in the trays makes it seem like it is just going to collect stains.
A. They can get a little more stained but you need to clean them well during the treatment. We always recommend seeing a hygienist.

Q. I have heard that you can get teeth whitening included in the invislaign proces. Could you please tell me at what stage of the treatment this is likely to take place and what system is usually used.
A. That depends on your dentist but you usually start the whitening towards the end of treatment.

Q. For some reason the two attachments on my front teeth have turned a horrible stained colour. I drink white wine but this is not red wine for heavens sake. Is this the cuase? I’m not sure I can do without a nice glass of wine after a hard day at work!
A. The attachments can stain and red wine, coffee, tea, smoking or foods with colourings can cause staining.

Q. I am going to get invisalign to fix the slight crookedness of my teeth and have been okay’d my the dentist. I am also going to try and use this opportunity to help me stop smoking. Do you know if any of your patients have been helped out by having the aligners at the same time? I suppose it makes it harder to do so and also cuts out snacks that you may try to replace the nicotene with.
A.
Alot of patients who stop smoking want to improve the appearance of their teeth and which great for self confidence. With Invisalign treatment the majority of my patients do not smoke and some use it as a trigger to stop smoking. There are a very small minority of patients who continue to smoke with aligners in their mouth and this can cause alot of staining on the surface of the teeth over a very short period of time so I do not recommend doing this. With snacking and chewing nicotine containing gum, this should only be done with the aligners out of the mouth otherwise they will crack and be damaged easily.
