What is the average time scale for invisalign treatment?

October 2nd, 2009
Q.
Would you please be able to give me an average of how long invisalign treatment takes for most patients. I am now into the 14th month of my treatment and I am coming to the end, but the level of movement does not seem as great as it was before. Is this normal?

Safe to use a nail file to rub away protruding piece on aligner?

October 2nd, 2009
Q.
I am now on my fourth set of aligners and a problem has arose. My tongue is getting rubbed against viciously by my alginers. I have heard some people use a nail file to remove the bit that is sticking out. Is this something that should not be done? The pain is getting on my nerves.

Does it get easier to take out aligners during invisalign treatment?

October 2nd, 2009
Q.
Does it get easier to take your trays out as invisalign treatment goes along. I have just begun treatment and it seems like hard work taking them out, especially as I am trying to be as gentle as possible. Will it get any easier?

Are chewies essential to invisalign treatment?

October 1st, 2009
Q.
I have been given chewies as part of my invisalign treatment. My dentist told me to use the chewies in a gentle manner but I think I did it a bit too hard and pushed my alginers too far down. Should I refrain from using them in the future or are they necessary?

Is invisalign slower at moving teeth than fixed braces?

October 1st, 2009
Q.
Are invisalign braces slower at moving teeth compared to fixed braces? My son has decided that he wants to get braces and that he wants it to be done as soon as possible. He has already been ok’d for invisalign, but he does not mind fixed braces if they can get the job done quicker. Any advice?

What different types of retainers are there?

October 1st, 2009
Q.
Once invisalign treatment is complete I presume I will have to wear retainers. I would just like to know what the norm is for the amount of time you need to wear them, and whether dentists offer one type or have a few different ones?

How many teeth does an aligner move?

October 1st, 2009
Q.
I just changed aligners two days ago, and am finding that it is just one tooth which seems to be aching. My question is how many teeth an aligner will typically move? Is it just one, or more?

Is teeth filing as part of invisalign treatment damaging to the teeth?

October 1st, 2009
Q.
I have read that invisalign often requires teeth to be filed away, or some such method, to make space for the teeth to straighten. This does not sound all that beneficial to the well-being of teeth. Is it safe, or can it damage tooth structure?
