My crown has become very loose since wearing the aligners, what should I do?

July 29th, 2010

Q. hello i have just recently received invisalign and it\’s great, it\’s not the problem. However i\’ve had a porcelain crown fixed for around 5 years now and since wearing the aligners it\’s becoming very loose and i fear that it will fall out. Is there some way i can get the aligners loosened around that tooth? the orthodontist did say the crown could not be moved but it does feel very loose.,
A. Hello, The best is to book an appointment with the dentist. During ortho treatment the teeth feel loose/ mobile and it is normal. However if the crown needs treatment it is better to sort it out.

I have been quoted a lot of money for the invisalign treatment, is this reasonable?

July 5th, 2010

Q. I have been quoted 300 pounds for the imaging and 4500 pounds for invisalign. Then I have been quoted 500 pounds per crown (4 recommended). Up to 3 teeth may need to be removed. All in quote to fix teeth is approx 7000 pounds. Payment option is during treatment only (I believe). Does that sound reasonable?,
A. Each clinic will have different fees, but your quote seems to be reasonable. Please note that prices will vary depending on complexity of treatment, materials (for the crowns) used etc.

Is Invisalign suitable for adults?

May 19th, 2010

Q. have you treated adults with invisalign treatment? The thing is they are in a bad condition, really wonky and some of my teeth are a bit loose, also my mouth is full of crowns and fillings etc and the enamel on my teeth has worn pretty bad.,
A. Almost all of my patients that I see with Invisalign are adults! If your teeth are loose then it would be important to establish if you have gum disease and if so this must be treated first before having any form of orthodontic treatment. With regards to the crowns and fillings, Invisalign works around these.

What can the dentist do about the filling that has broken when i’m under-going Invisalign?

April 19th, 2010

Q. Hey, i had a filling put in before my invisalign and it was a large one, anyway the aligners were made to fit perfectly with the filling in. now the tooth with the filling in has broken and i don\’t want it to stop my invisalign treatment but i\’ll have to won\’t i? what can they do about it? thanks for your time,
A. If you have the large filling removed and a smaller one put in (either final or temporary), you should be able to continue with the treatment until you come to the end of the aligners. Once you are at the end, then you could have the filling re-done so it is back to its normal (large) size or have a inlay/onlay or crown made.

Can I have the invisalign treatment when I have crowns in?

March 24th, 2010

Q. On one of my front teeth there is a crown that I had to get after an accident when I was younger. This was when I was 15 and I am now in my mid 20s. Would I be able to get Invisalign seen as I do have crowns? Would the crowns need to be replaced with something else? Look forward to your response.
,
A. The crown might have to be replaced, I treat people all the time with crowns in invisalign , sometimes we decide not to move the crowned teeth.
