I don’t feel confident with invisalign, what happens when the treatment has been completed?

September 2nd, 2010

Q. I\’m struggling with invisalign the thing is i have 2 very stubborn front teeth that have twisted inwards. i\’ve had invisalign for a few months now and i\’m nearing the treatment and those 2 teeth still haven\’t moved. what happens when i finish and the teeth are still like that? is there anything else i can do within my treatment time?,
A. There isnt much you can do other than wear the aligners for the required amount of time daily and floss regularly. If they dont move fully then you will probably need more aligners to finish the movements of these teeth.

Can you tell me what a good cleaning routine is with Invisalign?

August 18th, 2010

Q. I am new to Invisalign now and have 17 upper trays, but this is combined with metal braces on my lower teeth. Wish they could have both been invisalign : ( Anyhow can you tell me what a good cleaning routine should involve? I understand you have to clean your teeth and aligners after each eating? What about every morning and night?,
A. It is very important to clean your teeth morning and night as well! A good cleaning routine should consist of bruhsing your teeth for 2-3 minutes then flossing and mouthwash. It is also very important to have a professional clean by the hygienist ever 3-6 months.

Would it be too painful to clean teeth when I begin Invisalign?

August 12th, 2010

Q. Hello doctor. I have heard that when you first get your aligners it can be quite painful. Can you tell me if it will be too painful for me to clean my teeth and floss? I don\’t want to let things slip you see. Cheers.,
A. It will be fine for you clean and floss your teeth. The discomfort you get with the aligners is only mild.

Is there anyway I can increase the gap between my crowns to ease flossing?

August 6th, 2010

Q. I\’d like to know if it\’s possible to very slightly increase the gap between my extremely tight fitting crowns, without having to take them out? I find it very difficult to floss, and have tried various techniques/floss. My hygienist & dentist both recommend Superfloss. However, this too is very difficult to use. Before my accident, my teeth had a usable gap between them. Now with the crowns, it\’s really difficult - to the point where I don\’t bother most days. All of my other natural teeth are fine, with a nice small gap and are easily flossed. I\’m wondering if there\’s some sort of very thin, fine gauge product akin to \’sandpaper\’, that could be used to very carefully just increase the gap by a few thousandths of a mil - just enough to make it possible to comfortably get the floss between my crowns? My dentist keeps saying just push it through and let it snap in to place. But this usually makes my gums bleed – hence my reluctance. I’m sure that if the crowns weren’t so tight that I’d be able to floss more easily, and therefore more regularly.,
A. You can ask you dentist to slighlty ease the contact points to make it easier to clean.

My gums are very tender singing haveing invisalign and they bleed too, why is this?

July 27th, 2010

Q. Ever since having the aligners etc i\’ve experienced very tender gums which now bleed every time i brush my teeth! I have ulcers on my tongue and very bad breath and i have no idea why, it\’s been since i started invisalign! What can I do to stop all of this? I\’m contemplating just getting rid of invisalign..,
A. Hello, First of all, you might want to call your dentist and book an appointment regarding the ulcer on tongue. He could easily smoooth the aligner to eliminate the rough edges. Secondly, it is important to brush and floss your teeth after meals. If you wish you could use mouthwash as well. Not to eat and drink anything with aligners in your mouth besides water. Finally, the dentist could also check the bleeding gum and he could refer you to see a Hygenist for a cleaning. The discomfort you experience should disappear soon!

I’m scared to floss because of the invisalign, any advise?

July 27th, 2010

Q. I\’m new to invisalign and haven\’t really asked my orthodontist any questions. I\’m a bit scared to brush my teeth, my friend had invisalign and said every time she brushed her teeth her gums bled and i don\’t want that to happen to me, she also said that it\’s very painful when flossing, so i\’m scared to floss too. I don\’t want my teeth decaying etc so what do you advise?,
A. I would advise your friend see their Invisalign provider. Your gums should not be bleeding when you are having the Invisalign treatment! It should not be painful when flossing either!
