Q. Hello! I had a filling placed last week but now my dentist reckons i need root canal treatment and i\’m currently using invisalign. Should i wait till my brace treatment is over do you think? or just get the root canal done?,
A. It is very difficult to say. Having dental treatment during Invisalign treatment can affect the fit of the aligners meaning that you may require a mid-course correction to make new aligners to fit around the newly treated tooth. I would recommend you consult your Invisalign dentist. Best Wishes

Q. Hi I recently had a filling and am having a lot of heat sensitiviy. My dentist has advised hes pretty sure i will need root canal. How much can this affect my invisalign? My Invisalign treatment finishes in November, would it be wise to leave the root canal until then? Or does this sort of treatment need immediate work? Many thanks Kindest regards,
A. You could always have the root canal before you finish the Invisalign. This would be better than you suffering pain and discomfort for 4 months. You could have a temporary filling place afterwards. If you have a crown on that tooth then it would be better to wait until you finish the Invisalign treatment. Rememeber to have the new crown fitted before having impressions taken for retainers to ensure that they fit.

Q. Hello i had an accident last week whilst having my aligners in. Anyway, my tooth has died now and it\’s gone a really dark colour. Could i get this whitened or not because i\’m undergoing the treatment? what do you think?,
A. If your tooth has died, it means you require root canal treament, and unfortunately discoulouration is something that can happen in a dead tooth. For cases like this, normal tooth whitening may not work and you may require internal bleaching, which is not that predictable unfortunately. Y ou may want to consider a crown once your invisalign treament has finished to improve the appearance of the dead tooth,

Q. hi i have an infection in my tooth and have been advised by my dentist to go ahead with root canal treatment. i\’m half way through my invisalign treatment and worried it\’ll have to be stopped for a long time, i don\’t want to start the treatment again. what can i do? and what will happen in regards to my treatment if i have the root canal??,
A. Hello, It is difficult to answer without seeing it. The root treated tooth might just need a small filling which would not disturb the fit of your aligner. The root treatment specialist can decide how soon you could load the tooth. If your aligner does not fit for any reasons you might need a new set of Invisalign. You should discuss the plan with both your dentist and Invisalign provider.
