Invisalign does not seem to be making a difference. Are fixed braces the route to go?

August 4th, 2010

Q. my dentist has showed my an x-ray of my teeth, the clincheck and said my teeth aren\’t moving like he expected. I\’ve been wearing the invisalign now for around 4 months and i can say i haven\’t noticed any difference in my teeth and he said that there\’s nothing he can do but wait and see if the aligners move my teeth. If they don\’t move then what am i supposed to do? Please advise me! He said i may have to wear fixed braces.,
A. I have not come across teeth not moving with Invisalign. I am quite suprised by this! If you are wearing them as you should then there should be no reason why they are are not moving with Invisalign braces. The fixed brces would move your teeth quicker but anatomically there should be no difference.

I have to wait 3 weeks to receive refinements, is this right?

July 5th, 2010

Q. I have to wait 3 weeks to receive refinements, is this right? It seems like a long time to me! thanks,
A. Yes that is about right it takes time for your dentist to design the required teeth movements and then have the new aligners manufactured and delivered.

Will the fitting for the aligners hurt at all?

June 30th, 2010

Q. hello! i\’ve just recently been informed that i am eligible for the invisalign treatment, which is great! however, i am very nervous patient and my dentist said i need to have a fitting, is this going to hurt at all? will any of the treatment be painful? thank you,
A. The actual treatment at the dentist is pain free. You may experience discomfort once you start wearing invisalign aligners as the put pressure on your teeth to allow them to move. The level of discomfort varies from person to person and it eases off after the first few days.

My orthodontist is not listening to me when I say i have an ill-fitting retainer, please help!

June 30th, 2010

Q. My orthodontist is not listening to me, I\’ve have told him several times that the retainer doesn\’t sit on my teeth properly and isn\’t holding my teeth in. He insists that it is working but I know it\’s not and i\’ve noticed some of my teeth are moving back to their original positions :( what should i do?,
A. I would seek an opinion from another orthodontist who is independent.

Have I been given the correct treatment?

June 28th, 2010

Q. Hello I\’m coming to the end of my invisalign treatment and it has been very easy. However I only have one more aligner to go (I\’m on number 7 of 8) and I can\’t see how the teeth are going to quite move to the required position as shown from in the computer images. There has been good movement but I am concerned that the end result won\’t be what was shown to me. If this is the case, what happens? Incidentally, prior to having the treatment, I saw two specialists. The first gave me an estimated time period of 12-15 months. The one I actually went with didn\’t quote a time period but when the invisalign programme came back it quoted only 6 months (8 aligners). Why the discrepency? Could I have been given sectional treatment instead. Both quotes were within £300. Thank you for your help.,
A. You will probably need to have some more impressions taken for some new aligners to be made to get your teeth into a position that you want them. This process is called a case refinement. This shouldn\’t usually be at an additional cost to you. The number of aligners depends on how much they need to move or how much you want them to move.

After having the invisalign treatment how long would it actually last?

June 10th, 2010

Q. After having the invisalign treatment how long would it last? I mean would it be a matter of time before the teeth start moving back to the places they used to be in? I\’m frightened of this happening.,
A. After you have had any form of orthodontic treatment the teeth may move back to the original position. If you have retainers then this greatly reduces the chances of this happening provided the retainers are worn frequently. Retainers can be fixed on to your teeth or can be removable.

I don’t think my aligners are working, what should I do?

June 10th, 2010

Q. Hello i don\’t think my aligners are working. i\’m on tray 12/18 and there is no movement, my teeth still look pretty crooked, surely they can\’t be fixed in 6 other treatments if nothing has happened yet! what should i do?,
A. I will suggest you continue and refinements done to get the result you desire
